Executive Director
Good Local Markets seeks a passionate, committed, self proclaimed locavore to become the Executive Director of Good Local Markets. The Executive Director is responsible for developing and maintaining Good Local Markets farmers markets, programing, finances, and operations. This person understands the big picture strategy for this non-profit farmers market organization and works on creating strategic goals to support vendors and increase food access programs. The Executive Director is responsible for the health of the non-profit, as well as the farmers markets themselves. The ideal candidate has knowledge of local agriculture, non-profit management experience, and excellent grant writing skills. This position is full-time, salaried, and reports to the GLM Board of Directors.
Primary Responsibilities:
Financials and Fundraising:
Executive Director is responsible for managing the budget and income for the organization
Must write grants to cover program expenses and meet grant needs through data collection and reporting
Ensure the farmers markets are viable financially and that vendors pay their fees
Analyze budget and ensure the organization is financially sound and responsible
Work with partner organizations such as GROW North Texas on USDA grants and fulfill MOUs
Market Operations:
The Executive Director is responsible for the operations of the farmers market which includes managing city permits, liability and insurance, and partnership with our hosts
Responsible for securing the location of the market, marketing of the markets, set up and flow of the market, and vendor relations for the market.
Manages the market managers and staff who are at market setting up, tearing down, and managing the token program.
The Executive Director is expected to be present at all markets in order to develop relationships with vendors and customers
Vendor Management:
The Executive Director is responsible for developing and enforcing the rules and regulations of the market for vendors
Recruit, process, schedule and maintain relationships with vendors
Ensure the integrity of the market is intact. Producer-Only. Handmade. Local Only.
Inspect farms and ranches for marketing purposes, relationship building, and enforcement of our local only rule
The Executive Director supports our vendors inside and outside of market as part of our mission to incubate small businesses. This includes helping with permits, connecting to other vendors and resources, and advocating for farmer rights
Advocate for eating local and the hardships of local farming
Marketing:
Executive Director is responsible for all promotional needs for Good Local Markets and will work closely with Graphic Designer to develop marketing materials such as informational cards, market currency, posters, social tiles and more
Must maintain website, social media outlets, newsletter, and post in community pages
Develop a marketing plan that includes supporting food access and our SNAP/WIC programs
Create market merchandise such as t shirts
Be prepared at any moment for press releases, news reports, interviews, and tv spots
Administration:
Data collection and data entry
Maintain and develop budget
Work with CPA to keep record of income and expenditures as well as help prepare taxes
Write checks to rent, bills, etc
Maintain payroll for staff
Responsible for bank accounts, vendors payments, etc.
Human Resources:
Hire and train market staff
Manage market manager schedule and fill in as needed
Assist vendors through issues, quarrels, etc.
Qualifications:
Non-profit management experience desired
Grant-writing experience
Knowledge of food systems and agricultural practices
Social media and marketing experience
Program management experience
Outdoor event experience desired
Working Conditions:
The Executive Director may work from home if they so chose, however must complete accounting at the GLM office
Attendance at weekend markets is required (Saturday and Sunday)
There may be stressful conditions involving weather elements, and competing deadlines
There may be need for hours beyond a regular workday, including holidays (excluding Christmas and New Years)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, read, and write. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use tactical motions.
This position requires the ability to occasionally and repeatedly lift supplies up to 40 pounds.
This role involves being outside in all weather conditions to support vendors and market crew as needed. This includes rain, heat, and cold.
Weekend Market Manager
Good Local Markets is looking for a Market Manager to oversee the operations of our weekend farmers markets, White Rock Farmers Market and Lakewood Village Farmers Market. This is a seasonal, part time, hourly position. Hours fluctuate monthly based on market season.
The Market Manager is the on-site person responsible for the farmers market. They set up and tear down the market, oversee all operations during market hours at the information booth, and wrap up the market in the office with data input. The Market Manager builds and maintains positive relationships with vendors, customers, community partners, and neighboring businesses to create a safe and vibrant gathering place. Market Managers are expected to have a thorough understanding of Good Local Markets mission and goals, and uphold them at the market.
The Market Manager must be comfortable leading, identifying problems, and creating a fun and educational experience for both customers and vendors. They are responsible for enforcing policies and assuring a smooth and safe operation. The ideal Market Manager possesses strong customer service skills, an ability to work under pressure and time constraints, has excellent conflict resolution skills, a positive attitude, and ability to think on their feet in an ever-changing environment. This is a physical, public facing, outdoor job that requires the ability to lift heavy equipment in and out of a van. Working conditions include but are not limited to rain, heat, freezing temperatures and wind.

You are an outgoing, enthusiastic, community builder that has a passion for supporting local businesses and agriculture. You have extensive customer service experience, and quick problem solving skills. You have knowledge about Texas Agriculture, a passion for eating local, and a natural ability to educate the public about both. You are a morning person, and are able to work in all weather conditions with a smile (rain, heat, storms, wind). You have a positive attitude, eagerness to assist others, but are able to remain stern on rules and enforce them. You are able to make quick decisions regarding safety.
Job Responsibilities
Farmers Market Operations:
1. Manages Lakewood Tower Farmers Market, 6301 Gaston Ave, Sundays from 7:00am-2pm(ish) end time dependent on breakdown
2. Manages White Rock Farmers Market, 6044 Santa Clara Dr, Saturdays 5:45am-1pm(ish) end time dependent on breakdown
Drive the equipment van prior to market vendors and staff for set up
Set-up and break-down market tents, tables, signage, etc
Coordinate and welcome vendors and direct them to their assigned booths
Man the information booth and run the token program
Collect any vendor fees at market
Take social media pictures and videos of market and vendor products
Redeem tokens and fill out reporting paperwork
Sell merchandise at the informational booth
Provide customer service to market customers
Administrative Duties:
Accounting- Counts market money, prepares deposits
Data Entry- Enters data after each market in an excel spreadsheet
Requirements:
Must have a clean driving record, reliable car big enough to fit a tent set up in case of emergency, and ability to drive a large passenger van
Must be able to lift 30 lbs repeatedly, and be able to stand on your feet for hours
Work weekends early mornings
Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions
Strong background in Customer Service
Data entry skills and experience working with excel spreadsheets
Ability to understand rules and comfort holding others accountable
Passion for local food and farms; knowledge of community food systems a plus
